Courses

We are the leader in horticulture training.

Franklin Institute of Agri-Technology (FIAT) is a signatory of Code of Practice of Pastoral Care. Franklin Institute of Agri-Technology offers the following NZQA approved qualifications:

These programmes are suitable for both DOMESTIC and INTERNATIONAL students. Anyone interested in building a career in New Zealand’s horticulture industry is welcome to apply.

STANDARD DELIVERY: These courses are delivered on commercial production sites by teachers with strong industry experience. Students need to attend classes for 20 hours on site (two and a half days/week), work at least 8 hours in horticulture and complete self study diary for 5 hours/week
FIAT encourages and supports students on all programmes to take part-time work in the industry during their studies to gain practical exposure to industry practice and broaden their career options once they have completed the programme.

School leavers should consider the Level 4 (one-year) or Level 5 (two-year programmes). Candidates who have completed other post-secondary studies (and may want to change their career path) or have some industry experience can be considered for the Level 5 (one-year) programme.

WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING: The people working full-time in horticulture can complete their study by attending classes for one day/week (as compared to standard delivery, where students need to attend classes for three days/week) and can complete the requirements by applying their skills/collecting evidence while working at least twenty hours in horticulture production.

All programmes are fully approved and accredited by NZQA (the New Zealand Qualifications Authority).

Domestic students are eligible for subsidised fees funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and may be eligible for StudyLink funding. Students may also be eligible for zero-fees funding.
